Monarch Butterfly Initiative

The specs

Everyone in the class was asked to create an information panel for the town of Sainte Anne de Bellevue where one would be chosen to be put up on the bike path. We were provided with the text, but were free to do what we wanted – within the size specifications. Someone from the town came in to talk to us about what they had in mind to help guide us.

The idea

As I really enjoy illustrating, the whole idea started with the monarch butterfly illustration. The colors are so bold and beautiful, I decided to make the palette a part of the panel. From there, I added the photographs and text and it started to take shape.

The challenges

Finding a way to fit all the text onto the panel without it being overwhelming for people going by. We wanted to invite them in, not have them running away in terror at the amount of reading expected of them.

The overall feeling

I am proud that my work was chosen, and it is really exciting to go and see my work “in the wild”.
